To honor the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ (AFP) effort in bringing peace and development to the country, the Philippine Airlines (PAL) gave all military officers and enlisted personnel a 20 percent discount on all domestic flights.
The AFP, represented by Gen. Carlito Galvez, Jr. and Brig. Gen. Erickson Gloria, and PAL, represented by Executive Officer Stewart Lim and Chief Administrative Office Stewart Lim, signed the discount’s Memorandum of Agreement on Wednesday.
PAL will also prioritize the military during check-in and boarding.
The MOA grants soldiers 20 percent discount on the base fare for tickets to any destination in the country. It also provides them free baggage allowance and free transport of firearms.
Tickets issued under this agreement are valid for 1 year from the date of issuance.
To avail of the discount, military personnel must present their valid AFP ID and authorized travel order for Rest and Recreation.
“The agreement is part of PAL’s efforts to recognize the contribution of soldiers in bringing peace and development to the country. Also aware of the high cost of travel during their R&R, PAL believes that it has a social obligation to ease the burden of the ordinary soldier especially those away from their families. The privileges also serve as a way of providing assistance to soldiers especially during the intensive security campaign in Mindanao,” Col. Noel Detoyato, AFP public affairs office chief, said.
