2 captured rebels reunited with their families

Two captured rebels who were captured in Rizal, Nueva Ecija last October 13, 2018 were reunited with their families.

The two were Rachel Galario, 20 years old and a resident of Butuan City and Elaine Edzel Emocling, 23 years old.

Galario joined the New People’s Army (NPA) in Agusan del Sur when she was just 15 years old. She was transported together with several others to Luzon. She served as the group’s platoon medic. She got pregnant during her stay with the armed group and went down the mountains to give birth last September. She was about to go back to their group when they were arrested in Rizal.

Emocling, on the other hand is a former student of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP). It was during her release that the first time her parent saw them after disappearing for six months. She became a member of the League of Filipino Students (LFS) on 2014 and joined their rallies when PUP planned a tuition fee hike.

She tried to lay low from activism and even attempted to become a regular student, but was again enticed to join demonstrations and rallies. She formally joined the NPA on June 2018.

Emocling and Galario said that they were lucky to be caught because they have always had doubts when they joined the NPA but did not have the courage to resist.

Now that they are back with their family and has experienced firsthand a life of difficulty in the mountains, they hope to be able to finish their studies and live in peace.

Major General Felimon T Santos Jr AFP, Commander, 7ID said that the military commits to reunite families who were separated by the deceptive Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs). He also said that their has now become a form of rescue since Emocling and Galario were already contemplating to leave the armed group. MGen Santos gave assurance that 7ID will help Rachel Galario and Elaine Emocling to live normal lives.
