7 NPA rebels surrender in Bukidnon

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Seven New People’s Army (NPA) rebels surrendered to the Bukidnon Police Provincial Office, the spokesperson of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Region 10 said Monday.

Lt. Col. Mardi Hortillosa said the surrenderers include the secretary of Guerilla Front 89, which operates in Malaybalay City, Cabanglasan, San Fernando and Impasug-ong towns in Bukidnon.

Hortillosa said the rest of the surrenderers served as logistics and camp lookouts of the NPA.

The surrenderers brought with them several firearms and ammunition when they surrendered on September 11, he said.

He said the youngest surrenderer is 28 years old and the oldest, 55.

The former rebels are now waiting for the processing of their documents to qualify for the government’s financial assistance package, he added.
