AFP hit NPA in Leyte- Disrupts Plans, Scores Firearms

Philippine Army’s 802nd Infantry Brigade (802nd IBde) in Eastern Visayas encountered more or less 20 communist-terrorist groups (CTG) in the outskirts of Brgy Anislagan, Calubian, Leyte at around 6am today, December 13, 2018, scoring firearms and subversive documents.

In response to a report of an on-going plenum (meeting) of the CTG from concerned citizens in the area, Brigadier General Lope Dagoy, Commander of 802nd IBde sent two squads from 93rd Infantry Battalion and 78th Infantry Battalion to disrupt another planned atrocities of the lawless elements.

A 30-minute firefight ensued resulting to the recovery of one M16 rifle, two homemade shotguns, three magazines loaded with 5.56mm ammunitions, gadgets, subversive documents with high intelligence value and terrorists’ personal belongings.

“There is an insurgency situation in the area that needs to be addressed. NPA terrorists continue their extortion and recruitment activities victimizing the poor farmers and children. With the success of our operation, we give credits to the timely and relevant information provided by the civilians who are fed up by these atrocities,” said BGen Dagoy.

For his part, Major General Noel Clement, Commander of Central Command, Armed Forces of the Philippines said, “We definitely hit them hard today and we will hit them harder as we have the support of the people in the communities. Congratulations to the swift response of our troops. We were able to frustrate these terrorists with their plans.”

Pursuit operation for the fleeing terrorists is still ongoing.
