New police recruits take oath in Zamboanga City

A total of 687 recruits on Wednesday took oath as new members of the Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9).

Chief Supt. Emmanuel Luis Licup, PRO-9 director, administered the oath-taking of the rookie policemen after their presentation by Senior Supt. Romulo Cleve Taboso, Regional Police Personnel and Human Resource Development Division (RPHRDD) chief.

Chief Insp. Helen Galvez, PRO-9 information officer, said 547 of the 687 police recruits are males while the remaining 140 are females.

Galves said they assumed the rank of Police Officer 1 (PO1) and will receive a basic monthly salary of PHP29,668, aside from allowances and other non-cash benefits.

Galvez said the new police recruits have passed a strict screening process administered by the Regional Screening Committee on Recruitment, headed by Chief Supt. Edwin de Ocampo, the deputy regional director for administration (DRDA).

She said the recruits came from the different cities and provinces that are under the area of responsibility of PRO-9 (Zamboanga Peninsula).

She said the recruits’ oath-taking ceremony, held at the multi-purpose function hall of PRO-9 in Camp Abendan, Barangay Mercedes, was witnessed by their family and loved ones.

She said the 687 rookie police officers, following the oath-taking, were turned over to the Regional Training School-9 (RTS-9) in Camp Felisizimo Marcos, Barangay Pasonanca, where they will undergo a one-year training.

The new police recruits were received by Supt. Marlon Quimno, the RTS-9 director.

Galvez said the hiring of the 687 new police personnel is part of the PO1 Regular Recruitment Program of the Philippine National Police (PNP) for PRO-9 for the year 2018. (PNA/Teofilo Garcia, Jr)
