NPA leader surrenders

A leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Compostela Valley Province (Comval) has surrendered to the 25th Infantry Battalion in Monkayo, Comval on Monday.

The leader who was identified as Alias Pitt surrendered along with his comrade, Alias Rod.

They also surrendered their firearms, a KG9 9mm luger and a 30 caliber Garand, along with two clips and four live ammunition.

According to the two, they surrendered because of the hardship and out of fear for their lives after encountering government forces.

Alias Pitt also alleged that corruption also exists among their ranks.

He also alleged that the communist group’s Suporta sa Pamilya (SUPAMIL) program is just a bait for them to get recruits.

SUPAMIL is a program of the NPA where they promise to provide financial support to the families of their recruits once they join the movement.

The two surendereers are in the custody of the 25IB for custodial interview and debriefing.

Major Noel Clement, 10th Infantry Division (ID) commended the accomplishment of the 25th IB.

“The enemy’s hardliners soften as the CPP-NPA terrorist group leadership decays out of corruption and deceit,” he said.

“The 10ID and all government instrumentalities will ensure that benefits under Enhanced-Comprehensive Local Integration Program will be given to the NPAs who want to surrender and become a productive Filipino citizen and live a peaceful life,” he added.
